Okay oppos, so this morning I was pulling out of a spot in my dorm parking lot in my 280zx, and as I rolled back a Mitsubishi Galant appeared from behind the bro tuck parked next To me and my rear bumper smacked into its rear quarter panel just behind the rear wheel. This was a result of my carelessness, the huge truck next to me, and the louver+ c pillar combo obscuring my vision. I took the above picture after pulling back into the spot to illustrate how much of a bitch it was. My car is fine, it only had a small scuff on the bumper that washed right off but the galants tires now rub on the dented fender. The annoying part is that they only rub when two people are in the back seat and if it wasn’t for the 18" aftermarket wheels the clearance would be fine. I know the owner of the galant from several classes and I’ve loaned him tools before. He took it into a shop for a quote and they said “the wheel was pushed in” and it would cost $2227 for a total repair. I understand that rear quarter panels are a nightmare to replace but they have 25 hours at 55 dollars an hour for that alone. Because I am an 18 year old male college student with No ticket or accident history I can’t afford for my insurance to go up and I can’t afford to pay two large to fix his car. My question to you is how much do you think my insurance will go up, is there any action I take to reduce the pain, and is this quote reasonable?

That seems a bit high for a small impact in a parking lot... Seems even quite a bit for a Galant lol... At this price, get him another Galant for 1500$ :)

They might be saying the wheel is “pushed in” based on where the wheel is in relation to the fender - in other words thinking you beaned the wheel *and* the fender and just not the one. Assuming you beaned only the fender and his DOPE AZZ wheels are causing trouble due to being DOPE AZZ and not suspension damage, shop may have quoted very lazily or be trying to take both you and him for a ride. On the other hand, if you actually did BAWNK his wheel hard enough to twist suspension bits, than that estimate might be reasonable. Maybe.

go through your insurance. depending how old you are it will probly be only at the most a $50 hike. better than trying to dig up 2500. check a FEW shops for quotes.
i totaled out an older lexus in the same way with my truck. didnt cost me anything more per month.
let your insurance deal with his insurance. ITS WHAT YOU PAY THEM FOR.

When I was 17 I got in an accident that was 5k in damage to another vehicle. I called my insurance and hypothetically asked how much an accident would raise my rates (was a recommendation of a friend). To my surprise it was only $60 every 6 months, so I filed the claim. Doesn’t hurt to try that out I’d say.

Do you happen to have a picture of the damage to the Galant? That seems like an obscenely expensive estimate for a parking lot speed incident.
Like Falvien mentioned, get him another Galant haha

I’d turn it in - that way if the Galant driver tries to claim further problems later, (injury, additional damage,) then your carrier will handle it.

I’ve been on the other side of your accident. I was in my wife’s Explorer when someone backed into it at low speed. They had to replace the entire passenger’s rear quarter, bumper cover, etc. I don’t remember the exact amount, but it was over $5k.
